I am sharing this incident on blog because it is not just that
old man who is ignorant of the history behind Mein Kampf, but there are many
other well "educated" people who are unaware of the history of Fascism,
rise of Fascism in Europe after Great Depression and rise of fascism (Hitler’s NAZI -National Socialism: Nationalsozialismus).
In my journey to home in the end of December last year I was
at Delhi Railway Station. This railway station has one or two book installs at
every platform. I had a long time to wait for my train so I visited a
nearby book-seller at one of the platforms and asked him about some books of
Tolstoy. But, this old man could not understand me. This old man was in his 70s and I assume
that as a book seller he must have knowledge of books. I tried to explain that Tolstoy was a
Russian writer of 19th century and then I asked whether he had any other
books written by any other foreign writers. At that moment he understood me and
quickly took a book from his collection and told me that I should read that
book, because “it was a great book written by a great writer”. And he was
offering me the book "Mein Kampf" written by German dictator and mass
murderer Hitler.
This is not odd with just Railway Station, but if we visit
any nearby book seller in our Metro Cities we see that Mein Kampf is placed at
the front row with a tag of best seller books (See the attached image of a Book
Shop with this post). Unfortunately, in our country, most of the literate people
don't know about Tolstoy, Balzac, or Dostoevsky and Gorky, but they have read
Mein Kampf without knowing about history of Fascism in Europe.
These people don't know that fascist state under Hitler and few
elites had killed millions of Jews, and non-Jews, as well as Aryans on the
name of laws, for protection of their own comfort and profit. These poor people
have no knowledge of "holocaust" or "concentration camps",
or "final solution" which all was invented under NAZI regime for mass
murder of civilians on the name of "Nationalism" and "pure
race" and “racial pride”!
In past few years some of my friends have suggested me to
read Mein Kampf and they tried their best to convince me that Hitler was a “nationalist”
who “loved his nation”. To these people I have only one thing to say that concept
of nation was first arise in the capitalist society. Nation is a place where
production and distribution take place to fulfill the material requirements of
the people. In present stage of capitalism this nation is now transformed into a
place of competition among capitalist producers who are racing to gain more and
more profit out of socially consumable commodities, attacking other nations to
capture market, material resources and cheap labour. Truly speaking, concept of
nation has arisen from the capitalist concept of market. And above this basic infrastructure of production and distribution there arises a whole cultural concept of nation what we all know. Nation is not just a piece of land but a composition of all people bound to each other in the economic relations. It is other independent
point of economic discussion, leave it.
For now here I am posting some horrifying facts which NAZI,
the “nationalist”, tried to do when they were in power (For references see end
links):
·
After
1929 great-depression of world capitalist countries economic problems
like unemployment, poverty, low wedges, inequality etc were on rise. Hitler
never questioned profit driven capitalist economy, and repeatedly
used his hate speeches against Jews as political propaganda and created an
imaginary enemy of majority and declared that Jews, trade-unions, communists,
workers, and political opponents were the root cause of all the problems in
Germany like unemployment, hunger and poverty. After coming into power he suppressed every right of
the people. This is true for all fascists in the human history; they promote
that all the problems created due to capitalist robbery are not because of
exploitation of labor by capital but due to some "race" and "people" and then target that
one section of the society as solution of these economic and social
problems.
·
Under
NAZI state all democratic rights of the citizen were suppressed and millions of
the people were imprisoned for murder in concentration camps, not because these
people had committed any crime, but just because these people were Jews, trade-unionists, communists,
supporters of democracy, political opponents and critique of NAZIs.
· Women were excluded from all positions of responsibility, notably in the political and academic spheres and subjected to stay at home in the roles of mother and spouse.
· Women were excluded from all positions of responsibility, notably in the political and academic spheres and subjected to stay at home in the roles of mother and spouse.
·
Sick,
homosexual and handicapped men, women and children were subjected to murder in
gas chambers; these people were called "unproductive citizens" by NAZI state. Gas
chambers were “invented” to kill prisoners in masses.
·
Hitler
dreamed to rule over whole world, eliminate all Jews, communists and opponents
around the world.
·
Many
worldwide capitalists were profited from war state machinery developed under
NAZI state.
If we look at history we find that fascists look at workers organizations,
trade unions and communists as their main enemy. And repeatedly do
propaganda to mobilize and gain support of middle-class, Lumpen proletariat, criminals and elites
against these opponents. To understand why fascists do this will require some
light on history. Supporters of the fascism are blind follower of their
leaders, the elites, and have no faith in people, like NAZI in Germany
and Mussolini in Italy, while workers organizations, communists, and trade unions believe in the people and they
don't support blind fellowship of leaders and promote
reasoning among masses, unite masses to achieve goals set for the
people and by the people. Blind fellowship of leaders and disbelief in masses is the base for fascist powers to see workers organizations, communists and
trade-unions as their enemy. Blind fellowship always
opposes reason.
In an article of EPW (On
the Indian Readers of Hitler’s Mein Kampf, EPW, November 17, 2012) author
has written “The circulation and sales of Mein Kampf (first published 1925/1926)
in India have constantly seemed noteworthy, since it is well known that the
book clearly portended the genocidal program of the Nazi regime – the
systematic murder of Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, disabled people, and other
(particularly eastern European and Russian) civilians from the late 1930s to 1945.
Various estimations of the total number of victims go well over 10 million, of
which six million were Jews.”
